Nickelodeon At Comic-Con International: San Diego 2017 News Round-Up | Day 1 | #NickSDCC

Welcome to the first part of NickALive!'s special Nickelodeon at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 News Round-Up! In celebration of Nickelodeon attending Comic-Con International: San Diego 2017, below is a selection of news and highlights from the second day of Nick at SDCC '17, plus a few extras! Enjoy!

10:00am - The Future is Female: Women in Animation
Room 7AB

Marge Dean (WIA co-president, GM at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios), Paige Braddock (EVP/CD Charles M. Schulze Creative Associates), Kelley Gardner (Sr. Director of Current Series Nickelodeon), Sarah Malkin (Vice President, Digital Development, New Form), Maggie Malone (VP, creative affairs, Walt Disney Animation Studios), Angela Petrella (Producer Oculus Story Studio) and Kristy Scanlan (WIA Co-President, VP, Business Development Animation & Games, Technicolor) discuss female creative talent by format, unconscious bias, and the goal of obtaining 50-50 by 2025, with women sharing equally in the creation, production, and rewards of animation.

1:45pm - Rocko’s Modern Life: Return to Earth!
Room 6A

Fans will be shouting, "Oh my!" and "SPUNKYYY!," when Nickelodeon’s beloved and wacky series Rocko’s Modern Life lands in San Diego. Original show creator Joe Murray, Cosmo Segurson (director) and the voice cast of O-Town’s popular residents--Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko), Tom Kenny (Heffer), Mr. Lawrence (Filburt), Charlie Adler (Mr. Big Head and Mrs. Big Head)--will dive deep into the lore of this animated classic and what to expect from Rocko’s return to the TV screen, including an exclusive sneak peek at the special. The panel will be moderated by Marc Snetiker (Entertainment Weekly).

During the panel, it was announced that:

- Filburt "goes viral after a while" in the TV special Static Cling!

- Really Really Big Man's Nipples of the Future will make an appearance in Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling! In the film, he'll be a dark and gritty vigilante!

- That Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling is 100% Hand Animated. The backgrounds are also all Handpainted!

- "There's a lot of cameos in the [#RockosModernLife] special" - Creator Joe Murray talking about who will be in the Rocko special #NickSDCC

- Peaches will also make a cameo in Static Cling!

- We'll see Filburt's kids in #rockosmodernlife Static Cling. Two are doctors, one has their pants keep falling down.

3:30pm - Gumby's Back! The Claymation Clayboy Returns to Comics!
Room 26AB

Art Clokey's greatest creation has always been able to jump into any book at all-literally! Now he's jumping back into his very own comic book series from Papercutz. Gumby, Pokey, and the gang are back just in time for the 60th anniversary of The Gumby Show. Reminisce with Joe and Joan Clokey about their dad's world-famous creation, hear from Gumby comics legend Rick Geary, and get the lowdown on the new stories Papercutz is creating with cartoonist Art Baltazar (Aw Yeah Comics), writers Jeff Whitman and Eric Esquivel (Animal Jam, Nickelodeon Pandemonium, Yo-kai Watch, BOO!), and Papercutz editor-in-chief Jim Salicrup.

4:30pm - Art Heroines: Using Science to Help Create Art
Room 26AB

The Art Heroines explore the value of using science to further your art projects, from finding inspiration to implementing techniques. These seasoned professionals offer an in-depth discussion on how the pros employ the scientific method in their work. From observation to experimentation to innovation, they'll break down how you can use science at home. Moderated by Robyn Simms, Emmy-nominated costume designer for Tumble Leaf (Amazon) and co-host of The Grownups Are Talking podcast, the panel features Danelle Vierkant (creature designer and builder, Grimm, American Horror Story), Ivonne Escoto (designer and builder, Sleepy Hollow, The Flash), Dee Chavez (background designer/layout, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks), Kristin Donner (painter/illustrator, Nickelodeon, Society for American Archaeology), Melissa Doss Diwa (builder, Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Disney Online), Nicole Filiatrault (technical director, South Park), Kaitlyn Yang (VFX supervisor, Robot Chicken, The Walking Dead), and Chelsea Pickens (art department, Anomalisa, Yamasong).
